The general meeting was held at the Parkland Best Western in Yorkton. Guest speaker was David Larson, Soil Nutrient Management Specialist, Ministry of Agriculture. His presentation highlighted Climate Change. Human factors attributed to climate change include (1) carbon dioxide (C02) concentrations from burning fossil fuels are the dominant contributing factor (75%) for increased CO2 levels in the atmosphere, and (2) land use change (25%).
Agrologist Keith Head, the SCWMC’s soils consultant gave a report on soil sampling results from the fall of 2007. Fields 6 and 7 were sampled, in general soil nitrate levels have been improved with one application of manure (the amount is modest and is no greater than what would be expected in a fallow field).
